Honesty

“We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things.  If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, we seek after these things.” -13th Article of Faith

Just this morning I started reading a book entitled The Power of Persuasion by Robert Levine.  Though I have only read the introduction, I find this will be an invaluable resource to me for many reasons.

Ironically, my fiancé received a phone call this morning from someone claiming to be from the government, offering her a grant for $8,400.  As great as that initially sounds, she fell into the caller’s trap, and gave up her bank account information.  Luckily, I believe she was experiencing promptings of the Holy Ghost to know that the offer wasn’t genuine, and she ended up closing her bank account to prevent theft.

As mentioned above, “We believe in honest…and in doing good to all men.”  I think it’s fair to say that we also desire the same in return.  This statement comprises core principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  If we are true followers of the Savior, we will live our lives honestly, and in good character.

It is important to remember, however, that even though things like this happen, and we find ourselves upset, we must still act as the Savior would.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” -Matthew 5:44

“Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” -Thomas Jefferson
