The past week has been extremely busy moving furniture and things from Las Vegas to Idaho. The past couple days have been spent organizing, cleaning, and putting things together for our apartment. We are lucky to have such great friends and family who have been so generous and supportive.
As I have been working on making a home out of our new apartment, some scriptures have come to mind…
“Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” -Doctrine and Covenants 109:8
“A temple is literally a house of the Lord, a holy sanctuary…A place where the Lord may come, it is the most holy of any place of worship on the earth. Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness.” -LDS Bible Dictionary, 735
The temple is a very special, and sacred place to spend your time. There is only one other place in the entire world that even has the potential to compare, and it’s your own home. One’s home should be “…a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house a God.” It should be a refuge from the world. You should expect to walk into a completely different atmosphere when you cross the threshold of your home.
These are the goals I have for my home. There is way too much darkness and wrong in the world today. Everyone is entitled to a place away from such things. A place away from the darkness. A place of light.
“Our homes are to be more than sanctuaries; they should also be places where God’s Spirit can dwell, where the storm stops at the door, where love reigns and peace dwells.” -Thomas S. Monson
