Resurrecting Old Habits

When my wife and I were first married last August, we began a habit of nightly scripture reading before going to sleep. The past few months have gotten the better of us, however, probably due to the holidays. But there is no room for excuses, especially when you know you are missing out on blessings from healthy habits. Last night I asked if we could start reading again, and we did.

It is interesting how you can experience the good feelings and inspiration that comes from doing spiritual things habitually, but once you fall out of the habit, even for just a short period of time, you miss what you had.

Reading and studying the scriptures makes me happy. Though it is often difficult to make time to really dig deep and study for a good amount of time, I’ve found that the Lord blesses us for just making the effort. My ideal time to study the scriptures each day would be 30 minutes to a full hour, but most days that is just not possible.

The scriptures are a way for us to become closer to our Heavenly Father, and our Savior, Jesus Christ. The more we read and pray, the more we get to know who they are, and what our relationship is with them.

Here’s to jumping back in to those righteous habits and reaping the benefits therein!

  1. I agree that ideal is 30 mins. The only way I get this is if I wake up before my kids do. I liked the post. I’m glad to run into a new blog to follow! 🙂
