I Dreamed A Dream

Recently during a nap I found myself in a dream. Within that dream my wife and I had a newborn baby boy. Later in the dream I noticed that he had an older sister.

As we anxiously await the doctors appointment wherein we find out the gender of our first child, I can’t help but wonder if God is telling us now if we will welcome one of his daughters into our family?

I believe God is involved in our lives on a very personal level. There have been instances in times past where God has taught His will to people in dreams. In the LDS Guide to the Scriptures, it says that dreams are “One way that God reveals his will to men and women on earth. Not all dreams are revelations, however. Inspired dreams are the fruit of faith.”

So what does it all mean?

I suppose it could mean a number of things. It could mean that deep down, both of us really want a girl, and because that’s what is on our minds, that is what I dreamed about. Or, it could be the influence of the One who knows all things, giving us a “heads up” so we can not only bask in the excitement, but also be completely prepared for her arrival.

We are excited to welcome our first child into the world. We believe that “Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives-mothers and fathers-will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.” (The Family: A Proclamation to the World)

As we look forward to the future, we take faith in the fact that God will provide and that His will will be made known, and that as we raise this child, His child, He will help us every step of the way.
