We all have anniversaries, dates that we remember and look back on. Dates that we celebrate, wedding anniversaries, birthdays, etc. These special days stick with us our whole lives, allowing us to recall memories of special days, and to create new memories.
Seven years ago, there became a special day in my life that I look back on every year. I took a risk, and it paid off more than I could have ever imagined. I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Growing up, I knew of God, but in all honesty, I did not know Him. My parents taught me to believe in Jesus because He died for us, but I didn’t really know why.
Now I know.
About nine years ago, my best friends introduced me to the Church. I learned about prophets, more specifically, living prophets. I learned that God still speaks to us today just as in biblical times. I learned how to really talk to God through prayer. I learned why Jesus died for me, and how to trust in that act of love. I learned my relationship with them. My life changed.
Seven years ago when I was baptized, I didn’t know for sure all that I was learning was true. Today, I have absolutely no doubt. I have never felt more certain. Though I do not know everything, I know enough to keep me going. I also trust God to continue leading me along this path, which ultimately ends up in His presence.
In these past seven years I have served a full-time mission, been married, finished college, have a child on the way, and am about to move in to a new home. I am living the dream.
I believe that my obedience and loyalty to God brings consistent blessings to my wife and me. I also believe that anyone can experience the joy that comes from membership in the Church. Yes, it is life changing. But it’s positive change, and has long-term, in fact, eternal benefits. The best part is, these benefits are not just for you or me. They are for everyone, especially families. Families are forever. How I look forward to being with my wife and children forever.
Though I don’t know what the next seven years have in store for my little family, I know that I can look forward with great faith, excited for the adventures that lie ahead.
SO happy for you 🙂
