There are stories that make headline news, and quite often there are smaller, powerful stories within these headlines.
While scrolling through the news feed today I saw an article from ESPN about a football injury that happened today. Aaron Williams of the Buffalo Bills suffered a neck injury while attempting a tackle. He was immobilized and taken off the field in an ambulance.
The article then mentions what, in my opinion, is the most touching part of the story.
“The entire Bills bench huddled together in prayer after Williams was moved to the ambulance.”
Recognizing that there was nothing else that they could do to help their teammate, the team united together in prayer, no doubt asking God to take care of their teammate.
Let the media tell you all it wants. Let them make you believe that America is falling away from its Christian roots. But choose not to believe it. Stories like this one give me hope for America. Such a simple act provides a great example for everyone watching, and everyone else, such as myself, who read about this terrible injury.
As a favorite hymn mentions, “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire.” Though many surrender to prayer in times of helplessness, prayer is always available. It is the catalyst by which we speak with our Heavenly Father. When we pray, he hears us, and most importantly, he listens.
Regular prayer, during the good times and the bad times, brings us closer to heaven. There is always comfort to be found when knowing that the Being who created you, who loves you and desires to help you through every detail of your life, is just a prayer away—much closer than we can ever comprehend.
