October 2015 General Conference Notes – Sunday Afternoon Session

D. Todd Christofferson – Quorum of Twelve Apostles

christoffersont_largeWhy does Jesus chose to use a church to carry out His and His Father’s work?

God’s ultimate purpose is our progress.

Uniting ourselves to the body of Christ (the Church) is a part of taking His name upon us.

We strive to help one another come to the knowledge of the Son of God.

We not only learn divine doctrine, we experience its application.

In the Church we are all on the same journey.

Repentance is individual, but fellowship…is in the Church.

We do not strive for conversion in the church, but to Christ and his gospel. The Church facilitates that conversion.

We speak not just of immortality, but of eternal life.

The Church safeguards and publishes God’s words.

Devin G. Durrant – Sunday School General Presidency

Small efforts sustained over time can produce significant results.

Ponderize one verse of scripture each week.

Throughout the week picture the Savior saying encouraging words to you.

Include people of other faiths in your social groups, including social media.

Scriptures are revelation and they will bring added revelation.

Do the things which you have seen me do. -Jesus

Von G. Keetch – Seventy

von-keetch-first-quorum-seventy_largeGod’s commands and standards can sometimes be difficult to understand.

We show our love for God and our faith in Him by following the course and keeping the commandments.

Those who keep the commandments of God are blessed in all things.

God wants us to have joy. He wants us to have peace. He wants us to succeed. He wants us to be safe.

The Lord’s commandments are given out of love and caring.

The Lord’s commandments illuminate who we should become.

As we submitted to His will we become who He wants us to become.

Carole M. Stephens – Relief Society General Presidency

carole-m-stephens-largeGod’s laws are a manifestation for His love for us. Obedience is a manifestation of our love for Him.

Trust in God’s eternal plan for you.

Trust the council of living prophets.

There is safety in following the word of the Lord through his prophets.

Allan D. Haynie – Seventy

allen-haynie-first-quorum-seventy_largeWe should not deceive ourselves about what it takes to return and remain in the presence of God. We HAVE to be clean.

What does matter is that Jesus Christ suffered pains and afflictions of every kind so that hey may know how to succor his people.

The Savior will never turn away from us.

He understands it all perfectly.

Repentance is real and it works.

What the Savior atonement heals stays healed.

Remember in Whom you have trusted.

Kim B. Clark – Seventy

kim-clark-first-quorum-of-seventy_largeOur time is a dangerous time. A time of great evil and temptation.

Whatever level of spirituality we now have it will not be sufficient. We need greater light and power.

Truly receive the Lord, his doctrine, and his church.

We do not need to be perfect, but we need to be good and getting better.

Simple obedience brings the Spirit into our hearts.

Eyes to see and ears to hear.

Koichi Aoyagi – Second Quorum of Seventy

Love God, have faith in Christ.

David A. Bednar – Quorum of Twelve Apostles

david-a-bednar-largeIt is wonderful to have older men of great spiritual maturity and judgement serving in leadership positions.

When you cannot do what you have always done, then you can only do what matters most.

Physical restrictions can expand vision.

The leaders of the Church will be older and spiritually seasoned men.

The imperfections of the leaders of the Church should be encouraging and faith-promoting.

Adversity if handled correctly can be a blessing in our lives. -Elder Wirthlin

Family is the center of life and the key to eternal happiness. -Elder Perry

President Packer’s final message is the lesson of a lifetime.

Hear and heed the eternal truths taught by the Lord’s authorized representatives.
