The Latter-day Life

Salt as a preservative can be used forever as long as it remains clean. Should the salt become compromised it loses its power to act as a preservative.

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salts have lost his savior, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” -Matthew 5:13 

We are instructed to be the salt of the earth. Modern day revelation teaches us that we take this task upon us as we make covenants to serve God.

“When men are called unto mine everlasting gospel, and covenant with an everlasting covenant, they are accounted as the salt of the earth and the savor of men. They are called to be the savor of men; therefore, if that salt of the earth lose its savor, behold, it is thenceforth good for nothing only to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.” -Doctrine and Covenants 101:39:40 

No wants wants dirty salt. As followers of Jesus, we can choose to be clean salt. Each of us is unique and full of flavor to enhance the lives of those around us.

As we strive to keep ourselves clean we can help to preserve the world. But should we allow even little things to come into our lives and compromise us, we lose the power that we have. Thankfully, we have a loving Father in Heaven who loves us enough to gives us His Son to cleanse and purify us, allowing us to continue to be the salt of the earth.

Salt also has the power to increase buoyancy. Buoyancy allows things to be lifted up and float. Likewise, as we follow our commission to be the salt of the earth, we will have the power to lift others up around us.
