The Latter-day Life

Following are my notes from the Saturday Morning Session of General Conference! Enjoy!

Gathered as a family, united in faith.
We are a temple building and temple attending people.
Be uplifted and inspired as we listen and learn.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland (Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)
You will one day find yourself called upon to defend your faith.
Such moments will require courage and courtesy.
Viewed Christ’s death, suffered his cross, and borne the shame of the world.
They who stop the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire…(Hebrews)They of whom the world was not worthy, wandered in deserts, and mountains, and dens, and caves of the earth.
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem…”
You may wonder if it is worth it…Yes it is worth it.
We have the burden of those called to bear the Messianic message.
The road leading to the promised land…runs by the way of Mount Sinai.
Hate is an ugly word.
It is a characteristic of our age, that if people want any gods at all, they want them to be gods who don’t demand much.
The bumper sticker question, “What will Jesus do?” will not always bring a popular response.
“Love one another as I have loved you.”
Christ like love is the greatest need we have on this planet.
We must forsake transgression and any hint of advocacy of it.
Pure Christ-like loving, flowing from true righteousness can change the world.
The path towards Christian discipleship is straight and narrow.
It can be successfully traveled.
You will feel rock like strength.

Elder Ronald L. Rasband (Presidency of the Seventy)
Bearing others burdens.
317 Seventies. 8 Quorums.
We all have the wonderful opportunity of blessing the lives of others.
The sustaining is not a mere formality. It is a privilege.
Comes with a personal responsibility to share their burden.
We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with a mandate to serve and lift his children.
Will we respond to the opportunity to serve?
Strive to lay up our spiritual treasures in heaven.
To follow His perfect example is to recognize and follow the ultimate act of service.
Reaching out in any condition is an eternal measure of love.
The Lord is grateful for the countless hours and acts of service.
“When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God.”

Elder Carlos H. Amado (Quorum of the Seventy)
Christ’s preaching was simple.
Christ always thought of blessing others.
Remain faithful to him unto the end.

Intermediate Hymn: Choose the Right (239)

Linda S. Reeves (Relief Society Presidency)
Distraction of pornography in the lives of Church members
Learn to manage the passion and feelings of our mortal bodies.
The spouse becomes preeminent. No other interest shall take precedence.
Many are innocently exposed to pornography.
Many are drawn back repeatedly until it becomes an addiction.
Can’t overcome alone.
Listen with love and understanding to those addicted.
They need to know the dangers. (loss of Spirits, distorted feelings, loss of self-control, etc.)
Pornography is more vile, evil, and graphic than ever before.
Create a family plan with more standards and boundaries.
Remember how merciful the Savior is.
He has the power to cleanse and heal you.
Know that you are not alone. There is help.
The greatest filter in the world…is the personal internal filter that comes from a deep testimony.
The only things that really need to be accomplished in the home are daily scriptures study and prayer, and weekly family home evening.
“I must testify of the blessings of daily scripture study, prayer, and weekly family home evening.”
They add protection to our homes.
Doing family history work and keeping ourselves worthy of a temple recommend.
Turn off your phone if necessary.
Walk out of movie.
Sing a hymn.
Think of the Savior.
Ask for help.
“I know the Savior lives and loves us. He has paid the price for our sins.”
We must plead with God for forgiveness.
“I cannot explain the power of this great book [The Book of Mormon].”

Elder Neil L. Anderson (Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)
Youth – a chosen generation of destiny
The worst whirlwinds are the temptations of the adversary.
Sin will always be a part of this world.
Repentance will subdue the winds of sin.
We are infinitely precious to God.
Are spirits are strong enough to combat the whirlwinds of life.
Changes in the civil law cannot change the moral law the God has established.
Review the doctrine contained in The Family: A Proclamation to the World.
Be in the world, but not of the world.
Reject false concepts and teachings.
Remain true to that which God has commanded.
The Lord has not redefined marriage.
Families are the treasure of heaven.
Do not fight back. But do not remove your statement. Sometimes you have to stand alone.
Same sex attraction. It is a whirlwind of enormous velocity.
In the gospel of Jesus Christ, there is no place for ridicule, bullying, or bigotry.
You may not like what comes. But if you listen as if from the mouth of the Lord, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.
The Book of Mormon is a protection against the whirlwinds of life.
Throw your energy into the Book of Mormon.
It is the most powerful written testimony that we have that Jesus is the Christ.
The Lord has given our generation greater access to the temple than any other generation.
The piece of the Savior subdues the whirlwinds of the world.
The way you feel in the temple is a pattern of the way you want to feel in your life.
Embrace more deeply His love, mercy, and grace.
Your experiences will confirm that Jesus is the Christ.
“I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you.” -Jesus

Henry B. Eyring (First Presidency)
You hold in your hands…happiness.
Choosing to make covenants with God.
Happiness in life comes through family bonds, which continue forever.
We can renew our promise to follow the Savior and to have His Spirit to be with us.
Honoring ancestors.
Because Adam and Eve fell, we have temptation, trial, and death.
The great gift of our Savior brings a universal inheritance.
With the help of the Spirit of Christ and the Holy Ghost we can keep the commandments and covenants we have made.
Courage and comfort from previous examples of faith.
He does not quit. Nor should we.
We can depend on the unfailing desire of the Savior to bring us home.
Heavenly Father and our Savior are our perfect examples.
God makes it attractive to choose the right by letting us feel the effects of our choices.
The blessings are delayed for a purpose to build our faith.
Study scripture prayerfully and by observation.
Daily family prayer, scripture study, sharing testimony.
Young children are more sensitive to the Spirit than we realize.
Things will work out.
Let Christ be the leader of your family, and things will work out.
After all we can do in faith, the Lord will justify our hopes.
We are all children of a living God.
